Horsemanship begins with you
1 Day Groundwork & Foundation Riding Clinic
Saturday, September 19th 2026
Carol Hodgsen Arena
Bay Minette, AL

Master the details. The horse will follow.
Most clinics focus on what to do.
This clinic focuses on who you must become to do it well.
Because the horse becomes the average of our actions.
If we lack timing, the horse becomes dull.
If we lack clarity, the horse becomes confused.
If we lack consistency, the horse becomes anxious.
So we improve the human first.
Not through gimmicks.
Through mastery of the details.

Saturday: Foundational Skill Development for the Rider
Spectators are welcome.
Participation is limited to 15 riders per session to allow meaningful coaching.
This is not a ride-through class.
It is a skill-building environment.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Groundwork is where riders confront their habits.
We will focus on:
-
Timing and release
-
Body awareness
-
Clear boundaries without aggression
-
Recognizing the horse’s mental state
The goal is not control.
The goal is understanding.
When the rider becomes more precise, the horse becomes more confident.
You will walk away from this clinic with:
-
The ability to move your horse's feet accurately on the ground
-
A strong understanding of pressure, release, timing, balance and when they are appropriate
-
The ability to diagnose your horse's mental state prior to committing to a ride
-
The ability to work through problems prior to committing to a ride through various exercises
-
A grounded understanding of what gear to use and why
Afternoon: Foundation Under Saddle
1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Under saddle, the same principles apply.
You will refine:
-
Clarity in cues
-
Consistency in expectation
-
Emotional neutrality
-
Attention to small details that create big changes
Advanced maneuvers are simply basics performed well.
We do not rush the process.
We refine it.
